Ricky Taylor crashes with two laps to go in Long Beach

The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship were racing the streets of Long Beach on Saturday afternoon for the Grand Prix of Long Beach.

Wayne Taylor Racing drivers Filipe Albuquerque and Ricky Taylor were on the pole for GTP, Vasser Sullivan’s Jack Hawksworth and Ben Barnicoat won the pole in GTD Pro, and Heart of Racing Team drivers Marco Sorensen and Roman De Angelis won the pole in GTD.

Late in the race, Wayne Taylor Racing driver Ricky Taylor drafted behind Porsche’s Mathieu Jaminet before passing him heading into turn one but skidded wide and went into the tire barrier. He could not back the car up and the race ended under caution.

The Porsche Penske Motorsports drivers of Nick Tandy and Mathieu Jaminet won the race. Meanwhile, Vasser Sullivan’s Ben Barnicoat won in GTD Pro, and Paul Miller Racing driver Bryan Sellers won in GTD.

The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship heads to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca on Sunday, May 14th, at 3 pm on NBC and Peacock.
