The Calgary Stampeders signed former Virginia defensive lineman Mandy Alonso on Monday. Mandy Alonso is six foot two and weighs 290 pounds.
The 24-year-old from Miami, Florida, served as Virginia’s team captain in 2021 with 32 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks in 12 games for the Cavaliers. Alonso was twice named ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week (10/4 & 10/18).
In addition, he was named to the 2021 ACC All-Academic team and the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society.
Alonso played five seasons in Virginia (2017-21) with 116 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and three pass breakups in 55 games, of which 39 were starts.
