The Philadelphia Eagles and quarterback Jalen Hurts agreed to a five-year contract extension worth $255 million through the 2028 season. The new deal makes Hurts the highest-paid player in NFL history. In addition, the new contract will include a $179.304 million guarantee and a no-trade clause. This was first reported by NFL Network writers Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.

Hurts is six foot one and weighs 223 pounds. The 24-year-old from Houston, Texas, completed 306 of 460 passes (66.5%) for 3,701 yards, 22 touchdowns, six interceptions, 165 carries for 760 yards, and 13 touchdowns in 15 games for the Eagles in 2022.

He was named to his first Pro Bowl, Second Team All-Pro, and the Bert Bell Award winner (Maxwell Football Club to the player of the year) in 2022.

He led Philadelphia to its third Super Bowl appearance but the Eagles lost to the Kansas City Chiefs 38-35 in Super Bowl LVII in Arizona. He finished runner-up for NFL MVP in 2022.

Hurts will enter his fourth season in Philadelphia. The Eagles drafted him in the second round (53rd pick) of the 2020 NFL Draft. In three seasons, Hurts completed 648 of 1,040 passes (62.3%) for 7,906 yards, 44 touchdowns, 19 interceptions, 367 carries for 1,898 yards, and 26 touchdowns in 45 games.

Collegiately, Hurts played three seasons at Alabama (2016-18) completing 445 of 707 passes for 5,626 yards, 48 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, 381 carries for 1,976 yards, and 23 touchdowns in 42 games for the Crimson Tide. He led Alabama to two National Championship Games, winning in 2018 over Georgia.

However, he was benched in the second half by current Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and Alabama won the CFP National Championship over Georgia 26-23. During his time in the SEC, Hurts was named SEC Freshman of the Year, SEC Offensive Player of the Year, and First-team All-SEC in 2016.

Then, Hurts transferred to Oklahoma in 2019. He completed 237 of 340 passes (69.7 %) for 3,851 yards, 32 touchdowns, eight interceptions, 233 carries for 1,298 yards, and 20 touchdowns in 14 games for the Sooners. He was named First-team All-Big 12 and Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year.
