The Birmingham Stallions (2-0) returned to Protective Stadium on Saturday night against the Memphis Showboats (0-2). Coming into this game, the Stallions’ new quarterback was Alex McGough after starter J’Mar Chase injured his finger and is out for the rest of the season. Birmingham signed former New Orleans quarterback Kyle Sloter to backup McGough.
Birmingham quarterback Alex McGough completed 21 of 28 passes (75%) for 301 yards, four touchdowns, and six carries for 32 yards in a Stallions 42-2 win over the Showboats. Running back Zaquandre White led the team in rushing with eight carries for 72 yards, and two touchdowns.
Birmingham tight end Jace Sternberger led the Stallions in receiving with five catches for 127 yards, and one touchdown. Birmingham’s defense allowed 183 yards, with 56 tackles, four tackles for loss, three sacks, one forced fumble, one interception, and four pass breakups.
Memphis quarterback Brady White completed 15 of 25 passes (60%) for 141 yards, one interception, and two carries for 12 yards. Running back Alex Collins led the rushers with 11 carries for 37 yards.
Memphis wide receiver Vinny Papale led the receivers with five catches for 42 yards. Memphis’s defense allowed 463 yards, with 65 tackles, five tackles for loss, three sacks, two pass breakups, and a safety.
Next Saturday, the Birmingham Stallions host the New Orleans Breakers at 12:30 pm on USA Network, followed by the Memphis Showboats battling the Houston Gamblers at 7 pm on FOX. Tickets for both games are available on StubHub and Viagogo.
