Week two of the USFL season started on Saturday afternoon from Protective Stadium as the New Orleans (2-0) hosted the Houston Gamblers (0-2) in a southern divisional battle. This was a good game by both teams as the Breakers beat the Gamblers by the final score of 38-31.
New Orleans quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson completed 23 of 34 passes (67.6%) for 251 yards, two touchdowns, and two carries for eight carries. Running back Wes Hills, a Wildwood, New Jersey, native led the team in rushing with 18 carries for 110 yards, three touchdowns, and three catches for 17 yards.
New Orleans tight end Jared Scott led the team in receiving with 11 catches for 121 yards, and one touchdown. The Breakers’ defense allowed 355 yards, with 54 tackles, five tackles for loss, two sacks, three interceptions, and three pass breakups.
For Houston, quarterback Kenji Bahar completed 18 of 30 passes (60%) for 266 yards, three touchdowns, three interceptions, and one carry for nine yards. Running back T.J. Pledger had 18 carries for 94 yards, one touchdown, and two catches for 26 yards.
Wide receiver Justin Hall led Houston with eight catches for 110 yards and one touchdown. Houston’s defense allowed 364 yards, with 68 tackles, four tackles for loss, and one sack.
Next week, the New Orleans Breakers battle the Birmingham Stallions next Saturday at 12:30 pm on USA Network. After that game, the Houston Gamblers battle the Memphis Showboats at 7 pm on FOX. Tickets for both games are available on StubHub and Viagogo.
