Ottawa Redblacks WR Nykeim Johnson and OL Uzoma Osuji retire

On Monday, the Ottawa Redblacks placed wide receiver Nykeim Johnson and OL Uzoma Osuji to the retired list.

Nykeim Johnson is five foot eight and weighs 170 pounds. The 24-year-old from Washington, D.C., signed with the Redblacks in February. He was on the B.C. Lions practice squad in 2022.

Collegiately, Johnson played four seasons at Syracuse University (2017-20) with 88 catches for 1,055 yards, eight touchdowns, and 15 carries for 105 yards in 46 games. In 2020, he earned Second Team All-ACC honors as a return specialist.

Then, in 2021, he transferred to Kent State, making 54 catches for 620 yards, three touchdowns, ten carries for 83 yards, and two touchdowns in 14 games. In addition, he had 16 kick returns for 346 yards and 12 punt returns for 66 yards.

Uzoma Osuji is six foot six and weighs. 292 pounds. The 25-year-old from Coppell, Texas, played five games for the Redblacks in 2022. Osuji signed with the Redblacks on May 19th, 2022.

Collegiately, Osuji played four seasons at Rice (2016-19). He played 22 games, of which 11 were starts at left tackle for the Owls. Then, he transferred to Boise State (2020-21). Osuji played 19 games, of which nine were starts at right tackle.

He was named Academic All-Mountain West in the Fall of 2020, Mountain West Scholar-Athlete in the 2020-21 season, and Third Team All-Mountain West by ProFootallFocus.
