Reading Royals lose game three of the Kelly Cup playoffs in overtime

The Reading Royals visited the Cross Insurance Arena on Monday night for game three of the Kelly Cup playoffs against the Maine Mariners. The Royals came into this game up 2-0 in the series and were looking to move a game closer to the next round. Sadly, it did not happen.

Four minutes and forty-seven seconds into the first period, Evan Barratt (2) scored a power play goal to put the Royals up 1-0. Charlie Gerard and Garrett McFadden assisted with Barratt’s goal. Three minutes and fifty-nine seconds later, Fedor Gordeev (1) tied the game for the Mariners 1-1 with an assist from Jacob Wilson.

Six minutes and ten seconds later, Nick Master (1) put the Mariners up 2-1. The Royals had 14 shots on goal but trailed Maine 2-1 after one period.

After a scoreless second period, in which the Royals had 13 shots. Reading tied the game 2-2 a minute and thirty-five seconds into the third period by Zayde Wisdom (2). Jacob Gaucher and Garrett McFadden assisted with Wisdom’s goal.

Seven minutes and eleven seconds later, Max Newton (2) put the Royals up 3-2. However, late in the period, Tim Doherty (1) tied the game 3-3 with an assist from Carter Johnson. The Royals had seven shots on goal but the game remained tied 3-3 after 60 minutes.

Fourteen minutes and fifty-two seconds into overtime, Alex-Olivier Voyer (2) scored the game-winning goal on the power play with assists from Curtis Hall and Tim Doherty. The Royals lost in overtime by the final score of 4-3.

The Royals finished the night with 39 shots, 1-3 on the power play, and Pat Nagle made 46 saves. On the other side, the Mariners had 50 shots, 1-4 on the power play, and Francois Brassard made 36 saves.
