Lehigh Valley IronPigs evened their record with a shutout win

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (11-11) played game two of a six-game series at the 121 Financial Ballpark against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (10-11).

Coming into this game, Nick Allgeyer (0-1, 6.75 ERA) was on the mound for Lehigh Valley against Jacksonville’s Ronald Bolanos (0-0, 0.00 ERA). It was a pitcher’s duel in the game’s first four innings. Lehigh Valley had three hits in the first four innings.

At the top of the fifth inning, the IronPigs took a 1-0 after center fielder Dalton Guthrie hit Bolanos hanging breaking ball just clearing the wall at left field for his second home run of the season. Two batters later, right fielder Jhailyn Ortiz walked but they could not bring him home.

Lehigh Valley pitcher Nick Allgeyer put together a strong performance pitching four innings, allowing two hits, two walks, and four strikeouts in 67 pitches, of which 39 were strikes. The IronPigs bullpen picked up where Allgeyer left off and kept the shutout going.

Moving ahead to the top of the eighth inning, Jacksonville pitcher Robert Garcia walked Esteban Quiroz with Weston Wilson up to bat. During Wilson’s at-bat, Quiroz stole second base but Wilson struck out swinging. Up next was left fielder Jordan Qsar. He singled on a ground ball to center field, scoring Quiroz for a 2-0 lead.

After Jacksonville made another pitching change, John Hicks was next to bat. During his at-bat, Qsar stole second base and later third base on a wild pitch by Robert Garcia. However, Lehigh Valley could not bring Qsar home.

At the top of the ninth inning, Francisco Morales closed out the game for Lehigh Valley. After walking Jordan Groshans, Morales got two outs. Then, the IronPigs’ defense committed a fielding error. Jake Mangum made it to first base on an error charged to first baseman Weston Wilson. Santiago Chavez was next for the Jumbo Shrimp but was called out on strikes.

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs shut out the Jumbo Shrimp by the final score of 2-0, extending their winning streak to five games. Lehigh Valley pitcher Nick Allgeyer won his first game of the season, while Francisco Morales picked up his second save of the season. Jacksonville pitcher Ronald Bolanos lost his first game of the season.
