New Orleans running back Wes Hills scores three touchdowns in Saturday against Birmingham

On Saturday afternoon at Protective Stadium, the New Orleans Breakers (3-0) took on the Birmingham Stallions (2-1) in a battle of two undefeated teams with first place on the line. This was the first time that these two teams met since last year’s South Division playoffs.

New Orleans quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson completed 20 of 28 passes (71.4%) for 283 yards, three touchdowns, one interception, and four carries for nine yards in a Breakers 45-31 win over the Birmingham Stallions.

New Orleans running back Wes Hills had another monster game with 34 carries for 191 yards, three touchdowns, and three catches for 16 yards. New Orleans wide receiver Jonathan Adams led the receivers with six catches for 75 yards and one touchdown.

New Orleans’s defense allowed 253 yards, with 50 tackles, four tackles for loss, four sacks, one interception, one forced fumble, and five pass breakups.

For Birmingham, Deon Cain returned the first kickoff of the season for the USFL for an 82-yard touchdown that put Birmingham up 7-0. Birmingham quarterback Alex McGough completed 17 of 26 passes (65.4%) for 238 yards, two touchdowns, one interception, and three carries for seven yards.

Birmingham running back CJ Marable led the rushers with six carries for 24 yards, one touchdown, and two carries for 19 yards. Wide receiver Davion Davis led the receivers with five catches for 123 yards and one touchdown. Birmingham’s defense allowed 483 yards, 78 tackles, two tackles for loss, one interception, and five pass breakups.

Next Sunday, the New Orleans Breakers battle the New Jersey Generals at 3 pm on NBC, followed by the Birmingham Stallions visiting the Pittsburgh Maulers at 6:30 pm on FS1. Tickets for both games are available on StubHub and Viagogo.
