The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed former Delaware State offensive lineman Matthew Derks and former Old Dominion linebacker Ryan Henry on Monday.
Matthew Derks is six foot four and weighs 325 pounds. The 25-year-old from Brantford, Ontario, was drafted by the Ottawa Redblacks in the sixth round (49th pick) in the 2021 CFL Draft.
Collegiately, Derks played 41 games in five seasons at Delaware State (2017-21). In 2018, he helped pave the way as the Hornets ranked second in rushing offense for the Hornets at 187.9 yards per game (2067 yards total). In his senior season, Derks played five games at guard and was named All-MEAC First Team.
Ryan Henry is six foot two and weighs 225 pounds. The 23-year-old from Miami, Florida, had 51 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, one interception for five yards, one pass breakup, and one forced fumble in nine games for the Monarchs.
Henry played three seasons at Old Dominion (2019, 2020-21) with 127 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, one interception for five yards, one pass breakup, and one forced fumble in 24 games. He was a Conference USA Honorable Mention in 2021.
Before Old Dominion, Henry played one season at ASA Miami College in 2018 with 14 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, one interception for 29 yards, and one blocked kick in nine games for the Silver Storm.
