The Ottawa Redblacks signed former Liberty quarterback Charlie Brewer and former Hawaii defensive lineman Blessman Ta’ala on Tuesday.
Charlie Brewer is six foot one and weighs 210 pounds. The 24-year-old from Austin, Texas, played one season at Liberty in 2022 completing 8 of 13 passes (61.5%) for 52 yards, one interception, and seven carries for 23 yards in three games for the Flames before breaking his hand against Southern Mississippi on September 3rd and returned on October 22nd against BYU.
Before Liberty, Brewer played four seasons at Baylor (2017-20) completing 828 of 1,304 passes (63%) for 9,700 yards, 14 touchdowns, 8 interceptions, 452 carries for 1,039 yards, 22 touchdowns, and two catches for 56 yards in 44 games for the Bears.
He finished second all-time in Baylor history in career passing yards (9,700), and second in Baylor history to go over 10,000 total yards (9,700 passing, 1,039 rushing). He was named Big 12 Co-Offensive Freshman of the Year in 2017.
Then, Brewer transferred to Utah in 2021, completing 48 of 79 passes (60.8%) for 484 yards, three touchdowns, three interceptions, and 12 carries for 16 yards in three games for the Utes. After the season, he transferred to Liberty.
Blessman Ta’ala is six foot two and weighs 305 pounds. The 24-year-old from Aua, American Samoa, was drafted by the Ottawa Redblacks in the first round (1st pick) of the 2023 CFL Global Draft. In 2022, Ta’ala made 40 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, and two sacks in 13 games for the Rainbow Warriors.
Blessman Ta’ala played five seasons at Hawaii (2018-22) with 142 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, four sacks, three pass breakups, and two blocked kicks in 64 games. Ta’ala is a three-time All-Mountain West honorable mention.
