The B.C. Lions released wide receiver Jared Smart and running back Nate Chavious on Friday.
Jared Smart is six foot and weighs 190 pounds. 23-year-old from Dublin, California, signed with the Lions in January. Before the Lions, he attended a rookie mini-camp with the Arizona Cardinals.
Collegiately, he began at Laney College (2018-19) with 70 catches for 817 yards and seven touchdowns in 19 games for the Eagles. He helped the Eagles capture the school’s first-ever CCCAA state championship. In 2018, Smart earned First-Team All-League honors.
After Laney College, Smart transferred to Hawaii (2019-21) with 149 catches for 1,863 yards and eight touchdowns in 37 games for the Rainbow Warriors. In his final season, Smart had 26 catches for 414 yards and two touchdowns in 13 games. In addition, Smart was an all-Mountain West honorable mention in 2020.
Nate Chavious is five foot nine and weighs 185 pounds. The 27-year-old from Bellport, New York, signed with the Lions in November 2022.
Before the Lions, he played for the Sioux Falls Storm (IFL) in 2022 with 158 carries for 684 yards, 18 touchdowns, 19 catches for 131 yards, two touchdowns, 51 kick returns for 951 yards, and two touchdowns in 16 games. In 2021, he was named Special Teams Player of the Year, and First Team All-IFL honoree.
Collegiately, Chavious played four seasons at Sacred Heart University (2013, 2015-17) with 349 carries for 1,800 yards, 17 touchdowns, 32 catches for 332 yards, two touchdowns, and 74 kick returns for 1,583 yards, and one touchdown in 37 games.
