The Montreal Alouettes signed defensive back Kordell Rodgers, linebacker Alec Poirier, defensive back Tysen-Otis Copeland, defensive lineman Simon Sandberg, fullback Jacob Mason, defensive back Maxym Lavallee, offensive lineman Theo Grant, wide receiver Shedler Fervius, fullback David Dallaire, and punter Rhys Byrns on Wednesday.
Kordell Rodgers is five foot eleven and weighs 175 pounds. The 24-year-old from Lufkin, Texas, played six seasons at Texas State (2017-22) with 156 tackles (106 solo, 50 assists), four tackles for loss, one sack, seven interceptions for 154 touchdowns, two interceptions, 25 pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 51 games for the Bobcats.
Alec Poirier is six foot three and weighs 250 pounds. The 24-year-old from Blainville, Quebec, played four seasons at the University of Laval (2018-19, 2021-22) with 71.5 tackles (47 solo, 35 assists), 11.5 tackles for loss, three interceptions for 49 yards, and one forced fumble in 17 games for the Rouge Et Or. He was named U Sports Second All-Star and RSEQ All-Star in 2022.
Tysen-Otis Copeland is six foot one and weighs 203 pounds. The 25-year-old from Montreal, Quebec, was drafted by the Alouettes in the fourth round (33rd pick) in the 2022 CFL Draft.
Collegiately, Copeland played three seasons at the University of Montreal (2018-19, 2021) with 33.5 tackles (31 solo, 5 assists), two forced fumbles, three interceptions for 26 yards, and four pass breakups in 20 games for the Carabins.
Simon Sandberg is six foot three and weighs 295 pounds. The 23-year-old from Karlstad, Sweden, was selected in the first round (5th pick) in the 2023 CFL Global Draft.
Collegiately, Sandberg played four seasons at Oregon State (2019-22) with 51 tackles (22 solo, 29 assists), eight tackles for loss, one sack, five pass breakups, and one forced fumble in 40 games for the Beavers. He was an All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention in 2022 after making 17 tackles (5 solo, 12 assists), two tackles for loss, and two pass breakups in 13 games.
Jacob Mason is six foot two and weighs 240 pounds. The 23-year-old from Burlington, Ontario, was selected in the fifth round (39th pick) in the 2023 CFL Draft. Collegiately, Mason played three seasons at McMaster (2018, 2021-22) with 12 carries for 101 yards, nine catches for 66 yards, one kick return for ten yards, and 13 tackles in 15 games for the Marauders.
Maxym Lavallee is five foot nine and weighs 185 pounds. The 24-year-old from Gatineau, Quebec, was selected in the eighth round (68th pick) of the 2023 CFL Draft.
Collegiately, Lavallee played four seasons at the University of Laval (2018-19, 2021-22) with 69 tackles (53 solo, 27 assists), 8.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, seven pass breakups, and one fumble recovery in 24 games for the Rouge Et Or.
Theo Grant is six foot four and weighs 280 pounds. The 22-year-old from Halifax, Nova Scotia, was selected in the fourth round (32nd pick) of the 2023 CFL Draft.
Collegiately, Grant played 22 games in three seasons at Queen’s University (2019, 2021-22) playing right tackle. He was part of an offensive line that finished second in the conference in rushing at 239.3 yards per game and fourth in the conference in passing at 227.3 yards per game.
Shedler Fervius is six foot one and weighs 190 pounds. The 23-year-old from Scarborough, Ontario, was selected in the fifth round (41st pick) in the 2023 CFL Draft.
Collegiately, Fervius played three seasons at St. Mary’s University (2018-19, 2021) with 59 catches for 702 yards, one touchdown, 14 carries for 126 yards, 47 kick returns for 992 yards, and one touchdown in 18 games for the Huskies. He played in the 2022 East-West Bowl. He sat out of the 2022 season due to academic issues.
David Dallaire is six foot three and weighs 217 pounds. The 23-year-old from Saint-Georges, Quebec, was selected in the second round (13th pick) in the 2023 CFL Draft.
Collegiately, Dallaire played two seasons at the University of Laval (2021-22) with four carries for ten yards, two touchdowns, eight catches for 91 yards, one touchdown, and three tackles in eight games for the Rouge Et Or. He is a two-time RSEQ all-star.
Rhys Byrns is five foot one and weighs 194 pounds. The 23-year-old from Rye, Australia, was selected in the second round (14th pick) of the 2023 CFL Global Draft.
Collegiately, Byrns played five seasons at the Louisiana-Lafayette (2018-22) with 246 punts for 10,704 yards (43.5 AVG) with a long of 74 yards, 13 touchbacks, 80 fair catches, 85 from inside the 20-yard line, 46 from 50-plus yards, and one blocked punt in 64 games for the Ragin’ Cajuns. He is a two-time Second Team All-Sun Belt (2019-20) and a First Team All-Sun Belt in 2021.
