The Ottawa Redblacks signed former Central Connecticut State linebacker Chizi Umunakwe, Temple wide receiver Adonicas Sanders, Eastern Michigan punter Jake Julien, and Towson offensive lineman Roman Wahrheit on Thursday.
Chizi Umunakwe is six foot one and weighs 215 pounds. The 24-year-old from Bronx, New York, attended rookie mini-camp with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Collegiately, Umunakwe played two seasons at Central Connecticut State (2021-22) with 144 tackles (65 solo, 79 assists), 16.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, one forced fumble, and more pass breakup in 21 games for the Blue Devils.
He was named All-NEC First Team in 2022 after leading the NEC with 9.4 tackles per game. In the 2021 season, Umunakwe made 50 tackles (28 solo, 22 assists), six tackles for loss, three sacks, and one pass breakup in 11 games.
In addition, he was named All-Northeast Conference Second Team in 2021. Before Central Connecticut State, Umunakwe played two seasons at Towson (2018-19) with 43 tackles (25 solo, 18 assists), 3.5 tackles for loss, and half a sack in 24 games for the Tigers.
Adonicas Sanders is six foot one and weighs 190 pounds. The 24-year-old from North Charleston, South Carolina, recently visited the Green Bay Packers.
Sanders played one season at Temple University in 2022 with 37 catches for 437 yards, two touchdowns, and six carries for 22 yards in nine games for the Owls. Before Temple, Sanders played five seasons at Georgia Tech (2017-21) with 65 catches for 834 yards, and four touchdowns in 14 games for the Yellow Jackets.
Jake Julien is six foot two and weighs 190 pounds. The 24-year-old from Barrie, Ontario, tried out for the New England Patriots in 2022. Collegiately, Julien played five seasons at Eastern Michigan (2017-21) with 221 punts for 9,726 yards (44 AVG) with a long of 78 yards, 19 touchbacks, 52 fair catches, 71 from inside the 20-yard line, 51 for 50-plus yards, and one blocked punt.
In addition, he had two kickoffs for 101 yards in 54 games for the Eagles. He tied Rich Hanschu (1979-80) for first in the EMU record books with a 43.4 career punting average and ranked eighth in EMU history with 7,383 yards punting.
Roman Wahrheit is six foot six and weighs 335 pounds. The 27-year-old from Rhauderfehn, Germany, played 32 games in three seasons at Towson (2019, 2021-22) playing right tackle. Before Towson, Wahrheit played for the Oldenburg Knights in the Germany Third Division.
