The Houston Gamblers (3-2) visited Protective Stadium on Saturday afternoon in a South Division showdown against the Birmingham Stallions (3-2). Coming into this game, the Stallions were 4.5-point favorites against Houston.
Houston running back Mark Thompson led the rushers with 16 carries for 78 yards, and three touchdowns in a Gamblers 27-20 win over the Stallions. Houston quarterback Terry Wilson completed 9 of 14 passes (64.3%) for 117 yards, one touchdown, and six carries for 42 yards, while backup quarterback Montell Cozart completed 2 of 6 passes (33.3%) for 15 yards.
Houston wide receiver Anthony Ratliff-Williams led the receivers with one catch for 50 yards, and one touchdown, while Justin Hall had six catches for 46 yards. Houston’s defense allowed 316 yards, 60 tackles, three tackles for loss, one sack, one interception, three pass breakups, and two forced fumbles.
Birmingham quarterback Alex McGough completed 24 of 38 passes (63.2%) for 209 yards, two touchdowns, one interception, and five carries for 71 yards.
Birmingham running back CJ Marbles finished second in rushing behind McGough with nine carries for 43 yards, four catches for 16 yards, and one touchdown. Tight end Jace Sternberger led the receivers with four catches for 41 yards.
Kicker Brandon Aubrey converted 2-3 field goals with a long of 49 yards. Birmingham’s defense allowed 263 yards, with 60 tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack, five pass breakups, and two forced fumbles.
