Edmonton Elks place three players on the suspended list

The Edmonton Elks placed offensive linemen Ye’Majesty Sanders, Tony Gray, and Toryque Bateman on the suspended list on Monday.

Ye’Majesty Sanders is six foot five and weighs 280 pounds. He signed with the Elks on March 4th. The 23-year-old from Columbus, Georgia, played 37 games in five seasons at Jacksonville State (2017-21) of which 29 were starts. 

In 2019, he played 12 games as a redshirt sophomore and the Gamecocks offensive line blocked for the top offense in the Ohio Valley Conference in which they gained 419 yards per game. In addition, the offensive line helped JSU’s passing game, leading the OVC and ranked 14th nationally with 296 yards per game.

In high school, Sanders was listed as the fourth offensive guard in Georgia and the 78th-best guard in the class of 2017. Furthermore, was a GHSA Class AA First Team All-State selection by the Atlanta-Journal Constitution and by the Georgia Sports Writers Association as a senior in 2016, and named All-Bi-City by the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer.

After high school, he had offers from Mississippi State, Charlotte, East Carolina, Florida A&M, Georgia State, and Mercer before choosing Jacksonville State.

Tony Gray is six foot five and weighs 310 pounds. He signed with the Elks on March 5th. The 23-year-old from Loganville, Georgia, was named Second-Team All-SWAC in 2021, anchoring an offensive unit that gained more than 350 yards in five games for the Tigers.

He played 15 games in two seasons at Jackson State (2020-21), of which nine were starts. Before Jackson State, he played four games at Mississippi in 2018 and five games for UCF in 2019.

Toryque Bateman is six foot seven and weighs 308 pounds. The 24-year-old from Gadsden, Alabama, signed with the Elks on January 10th. Before Edmonton, Bateman redshirted with the Florida A&M Rattlers in 2022. In addition, he redshirted at Louisville in 2017 before transferring to Fort Scott Community College in 2019.

He played six games for the Greyhounds helping the offense finish with the second-best passing attack in the KJCCC (221.8 yards/game). After Fort Scott, Bateman transferred to Troy in 2020 but did not play the season.
