Highlights: IMSA Motul Course de Monterey

Chip Ganassi Racing driver Renger van der Zande drives the No. 01 Cadillac to victory at Laguna Seca on Sunday

The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship were at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca on Sunday for the Motul Course de Monterey. The No. 7 Porsche Penske Motorsports driven by Matt Campbell and Felipe Nasr started on the pole in GTP, and the No. 04 Crowdstrike Racing of George Kurtz and Ben Hanley were on the pole for LMP2.

In addition, the No. 9 Porsche 911 of Klaus Bachler and Patrick Pilet started on the pole in GTD Pro, and the No. 92 Kellymoss with Riley Porsche driven by Alec Udell and Julien Andlauer started on the pole in the GTD class.

The No. 01 Cadillac Chip Ganassi co-driver Renger van der Zande beat the No. 6 Penske Porsche of Nick Tandy by 3.882 seconds for their first win of the season in GTP. In LMP2, the TDS Racing Oreca of Steven Thomas and Mikkel Jensen overcame a pair of pit stop penalties to win by 5.095 seconds over the No. 52 PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports of Ben Keating and Paul-Loup Chatin.

Meanwhile, the No. 91 Kellymoss with Riley Porsche of Alan Metni and Kayvan Berlo beat the No. 97 Turner Motorsport BMW of Bill Auberlen and Chandler Hull by 9.678 seconds in GTD, and in GTD Pro, the No. 79 WeatherTech Racing Mercedes-AMG of Daniel Juncadella and Jules Gounan beat the No. 14 Vasser Sullivan Lexus of Jack Hawksworth and Ben Barnicoat by 6.563 seconds.

The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship will return next month at Watkins Glen International for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen on Sunday, June 25th, at 10:35 am on Peacock. Tickets for all IMSA races are available on StubHub and Viagogo.
