Montreal Alouettes sign WRs James Letcher Jr. and John Brunner

The Montreal Alouettes signed former Washburn University wide receiver James Letcher Jr. and Western Illinois wide receiver John Brunner on Wednesday.

James Letcher Jr. is five foot eight and weighs 175 pounds. The 23-year-old from Kansas City, Missouri, signed with the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent.

Before Kansas City, Letcher Jr. made 80 catches for 1,076 yards, 10 touchdowns, 12 carries for 27 yards, one touchdown, 14 kick returns for 186 yards, and 11 punt returns for 286 yards, and two touchdowns in 11 games for the Ichabods.

Letcher Jr. played five seasons at Washburn University (2017-22) with 228 catches for 2,992 yards, 29 touchdowns, 60 carries for 366 yards, two touchdowns, completed one of three passes for one yard, 68 kick returns for 1,678 yards, three touchdowns, and 49 punt returns for 611 yards, and two touchdowns in 48 games. He is an eight-time All-American selection.

John Brunner is six foot three and weighs 205 pounds. The 26-year-old from Clearwater, Florida, signed with the Quad City Steamwheelers (IFL) in December 2022. In 2022, Brunner played for the Bismarck Bucks (IFL) with 39 catches for 382 yards, five touchdowns, one kick return for 29 yards, and four tackles (2 solo, 2 assists) in ten games.

Collegiately, Brunner played two seasons at Butler Community College in 2017 with 11 catches for 147 yards and two touchdowns in eight games for the Grizzlies. Then, Brunner transferred to Western Illinois (2018-20) with 53 catches for 745 yards, and three touchdowns in 17 games for the Leathernecks. He was named MVFC All-Newcomer Team in 2018.
