Toronto Argonauts sign defensive lineman Keyshawn James

The Toronto Argonauts signed former Ottawa Redblacks defensive lineman Keyshawn James on Thursday. Keyshawn James is six foot three and weighs 280 pounds.

The 25-year-old from Cayce, South Carolina, was released by Ottawa last week. Before Ottawa, James attended rookie minicamp for the New England Patriots in 2022.

Collegiately, James played four seasons at Fayetteville State (2017-19, 2021) with 228 tackles, 30 sacks, one pass breakup, 11 forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and one blocked kick in 40 games for the Broncos. He is a two All-CIAA First Teams and was named the CIAA Defensive Player of the Year in 2021.

In addition, the Argonauts signed kicker Alfredo Gachuz Lozada and released wide receiver Changa Hodge.

Alfredo Gachuz Lozada is five foot ten and weighs 225 pounds. The 24-year-old from Mexico was drafted by the Argonauts in the first round (9th pick) in the 2023 CFL Global Draft. He led the league in scoring five times and two-time all-star for the Naucalpan Raptors of the Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional (LFA).

Changa Hodge is six foot one and weighs 205 pounds. The 24-year-old from East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, signed with the Argonauts last week. Before Toronto, he played two seasons at Virginia Tech (2021-22) with three catches for 25 yards in 14 games for the Hokies. In 2021, he played five games after returning from an ACL injury.

Before Virginia Tech, Hodge played four seasons at Villanova (2016-19) with 99 catches for 1,685 yards, and 15 touchdowns in 31 games for the Wildcats. In 2019, he had 65 catches for 1,118 yards and 13 touchdowns in 13 games.
