The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed former Washington State wide receiver Calvin Jackson Jr. and Western University running back Keon Edwards on Saturday. In addition, the Ticats released wide receiver Caleb Morin.
Calvin Jackson Jr. is five foot ten and weighs 194 pounds. The 26-year-old from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, signed with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent and played three preseason games with four catches for 19 yards, and two game-winning touchdowns. He joined the Jets practice squad before being released and later joined the Dolphins practice squad in 2022.
Collegiately, Jackson played two seasons at Independence Community College with 74 receptions for 1,030 yards, nine touchdowns, and five punt returns for 84 yards in 19 games for the Pirates. He is a two-time All-Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Second Team.
In 2017, he caught 25 passes for 381 yards, and four touchdowns in ten games, helping the Pirates post a 9-2 record and win its first bowl game in program history, defeating Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in the Midwest Bowl Classic.
Afterward, he transferred to Washington State (2018-21) with 104 catches for 1,403 yards, ten touchdowns, and one carry for three yards in 31 games for the Cougars. He was named Second Team All-Pac 12 in 2021 after making 66 receptions for 987 yards, and seven touchdowns in 13 games.
Keon Edwards is five foot eleven and weighs 230 pounds. The 23-year-old from Toronto, Ontario, played three seasons at Western University (2019, 2021-22) with 373 carries for 2,653 yards, 27 touchdowns, 19 catches for 228 yards, one touchdown, eight kick returns for 122 yards, and two punt returns for four yards in 28 games for the Mustangs.
In 2021, Edwards was named First Team OUA All-Star and Second Team All-Canadian after carrying the ball 188 times for 1,264 yards, 16 touchdowns, six catches for 90 yards, one touchdown, and four kick returns for 53 yards in 11 games.
In addition, Edwards was named the Yates Cup MVP in 2021 with 24 carries for 269 yards, and one touchdown. In the 56th Vanier Cup, Edwards had 12 carries for 47 yards, and one catch for 23 yards, helping Western beat Saskatchewan 27-21 for their eighth title in program history.
In 2022, Edwards was named the Larry Haylor Award winner as Ontario University Athletics (OUA) most valuable player. He had 185 carries for 1,389 yards, 11 touchdowns, 13 catches for 138 yards, and one kick return for nine yards in ten games.
Caleb Morin is six foot three and weighs 190 pounds. The 23-year-old from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, was drafted by Hamilton in the eighth round (67th pick) of the 2023 CFL Draft. In his senior season, Morin made 48 catches for 736 yards, and one touchdown in 12 games for the Huskies.
Morin played four seasons at the University of Saskatchewan (2017-19, 2022) with 61 catches for 900 yards, one touchdown, one carry for seven yards, and seven punt returns for 49 yards in 32 games.
