Memphis shuts out Pittsburgh for third win of the season

Memphis wide receiver Derric Dillon returns a 109-yard missed field goal for a touchdown on Saturday

The Memphis Showboats (3-3) hosted the Pittsburgh Maulers (2-4) on Saturday afternoon at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium to kickoff Week 6 of the USFL season.

Memphis quarterback Cole Kelley completed 14 of 24 passes (58.3%) for 135 yards, one touchdown, and ten carries for 21 yards, leading the Showboats to a 22-0 win over the Pittsburgh Maulers. Memphis running back Juwan Washington had 20 carries for 71 yards.

Wide receivers Derrick Dillon and Vinny Papale combined with six catches for 101 yards and one touchdown. Derrick Dillon also returned a missed field goal for a 109-yard touchdown.

Kicker Alex Kessman converted three field goals with a long of 48 yards and made one of two extra points. Memphis’s defense allowed 283 yards, with 62 tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks, three interceptions, and four pass breakups.

Pittsburgh quarterback Troy Williams completed 13 of 19 passes (68.4%) for 145 yards, one interception, and four carries for seven yards. Backup quarterback James Morgan completed 9 of 19 passes (47.4) for 98 yards, two interceptions, and one carry for eight yards.

Running back Madre London finished second in rushing with five carries for 14 yards. Wide receiver Isiah Hennie had eight catches for 103 yards, and Bailey Gaither caught five passes for 41 yards and led the rushers with two carries for 16 yards.

Kicker Chris Blewitt missed two field goals, and Pittsburgh’s defense allowed 223 yards, with 60 tackles, eight tackles for loss, three sacks, and six pass breakups.
