The Memphis Showboats (4-3) took on the Houston Gamblers (4-3) on Sunday afternoon from Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium. Coming into this game, Houston and Memphis were two hot teams looking to extend their winning streaks. Houston were looking for their fifth straight win while Memphis aimed for their fourth straight win.
Memphis quarterback Cole Kelley completed 12 of 24 passes (50%) for 146 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in a Showboats 23-20 win over the Gamblers.
Memphis running back Kerrith Whyte led the rushers with 19 carries for 81 yards, and one catch for six yards. Wide receivers Derrick Dillon and Vinny Papale combined with five catches for 95 yards and two touchdowns.
Memphis kicker Alex Kessman made three field goals and converted two extra points. Memphis’s defense allowed 244 yards, with 57 tackles, seven tackles for loss, four sacks, two interceptions, 12 pass breakups, and one forced fumble.
Houston quarterback Kenji Bahar completed 18 of 39 completions (46.2%) for 216 yards, two interceptions, and one carry for four yards. Running back Mark Thompson led the rushers with 13 carries for 42 yards, two touchdowns, and two catches for 17 yards. Tight end Josh Pederson led the receivers with five catches for 93 yards.
Kicker Nick Vogel made 2 of 3 field goals (66%) and converted two extra points. Houston’s defense allowed 266 yards, with 66 tackles, five tackles for loss, one sack, one interception, six pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.
