Winnipeg Blue Bombers make several moves including signing DL Celestin Haba

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed former Texas A&M-Commerce defensive lineman Celestin Haba on Tuesday. In addition, they added wide receiver Tavaris Harrison and defensive back Karon Delince to the active roster and released wide receiver Tre Turner.

Celestin Haba is six foot two and weighs 250 pounds. The 25-year-old from Columbia, South Carolina, played two seasons at Texas A&M-Commerce (2021-22) with 39 tackles (15 solo, 24 assists), 13 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, one interception for 41 yards, one touchdown, two pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in 16 games for the Lions. He was named First Team All-Southland Conference in 2022.

Before Texas A&M-Commerce, Haba played one season at Scottsdale Community College in 2018 with 81 tackles (54 solo, 27 assists), 27.5 tackles for loss, 17.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and 11 pass breakups in ten games for the Artichokes. In 2019, he transferred to Western Kentucky but did not record any stats.

Tavaris Harrison is six foot three and weighs 190 pounds. The 26-year-old from North Miami, Florida, signed with the Blue Bombers in December 2022 after spending most of the season on the practice squad but hid dressed in five games but never played a down.

He was released in October 2022 and later re-signed with the Blue Bombers on May 22nd. Collegiately, Harrison played four seasons at Florida Atlantic (2016-19) with 80 catches for 1,279 yards and three touchdowns in 50 games.

Karon Delince is five foot nine and weighs 160 pounds. The 24-year-old from Phenix City, Alabama, signed with the Blue Bombers in November 2022. Before Winnipeg, he had 53 tackles, six pass breakups, and one interception in 13 games during his senior year at East Tennessee State.

Karon Delince played five seasons at East Tennessee State (2017-21) with 170 tackles, two interceptions for 129 yards, and two kick returns for 24 yards in 52 games, of which he started 42 of them. In addition to football, Delince competed in Track & Field. In 2018, he earned Southern Conference Male Freshman of the Year both for indoor and outdoor seasons.

Furthermore, he won his first individual SoCon title in the 200m final by 0.03 seconds (21.62). Delince had five total first-place finishes, including three 200m dash victories and two long jump wins at the ETSU Tri-Star Classic and the Catamount Classic.

Tre Turner is six foot two and weighs 187 pounds. The 23-year-old from Greensboro, North Carolina, had a brief stint with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022. Turner was initially expected to sign with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent but chose to sign with the Raiders.

Collegiately, Turner played four seasons at Virginia Tech (2018-2021) with 134 catches for 2,292 yards, 14 touchdowns, 53 carries for 456 yards, four touchdowns, and one punt return for 23 yards in 44 games, of which 36 were starts. Turner was named the PFF College All-ACC Second Team in 2020 and was invited to the 2022 Reese’s Senior Bowl.

In his final season, Turner had 40 catches for 675 yards, three touchdowns, and 12 carries for 64 yards in 11 games, of which ten were starts.

Turner was named ACC Wide Receiver of the Week (11/1/21) and Reese’s Senior Bowl Offensive Player of the Week (11/1/21) after making seven catches for 187 yards, including a career-high 69-yard touchdown against Georgia Tech. His 187 reception yards were the fifth most by a Tech player since at least 1987 and second most by an ACC player this season.
