Former Reading Royals Forward Max Newton signed with HK Dukla Michalovce on Thursday. HK Dukla Michalovce are a member of the Tipos Extraliga in Slovakia. The team has been in existence since 1974. Max Newton is five foot eleven and weighs 180 pounds.

The 25-year-old from Vancouver, British Columbia, scored 34 goals, 38 assists (72 points), and 45 PIM in 67 games for the Royals in the 2022-23 season. In addition, Newton scored five goals, five assists (10 points), and 20 PIM in ten playoff games. Newton also played four games in the AHL with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and Belleville Senators with one assist as a member of the Senators.

The Royals signed Newton as a free agent in July 2022. Before Reading, he finished his collegiate career at Merrimack College with 14 goals, 24 assists (38 points), and 16 PIM in 35 games before making his pro debut for the Worcester Railers (ECHL) with three goals, five assists (8 points), and 10 PIM in 13 games. He also played two games with the Providence Bruins with one assist.

Collegiately, Newton played three seasons at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks (2017-2020) with 18 goals, 25 assists (43 points), and 97 PIM in 93 games for the Nanooks. Then, he played two seasons at Merrimack College (2020-22) with 17 goals, 28 assists (45 points), and 20 PIM in 44 games for the Warriors. In addition, he played three seasons in the BCHL for the Trail Smoke Eaters and Cowichan Valley Capitals with 47 goals, 76 assists (123 points), and 135 PIM.
