The Philadelphia Stars signed former Georgia State running back Jamyest Williams on Thursday. To make room for Williams, the Stars released linebacker Jordan Genmark Heath.
Jamyest Williams is five foot nine and weighs 185 pounds. The 23-year-old from Athens, Georgia, signed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent and attended rookie mini-camp. In 2022, Williams had 85 carries (6 YPC) for 447 yards (30 YPG), two touchdowns, four catches for 27 yards, two kick returns for 34 yards, and four punt returns for 15 yards in eight games, of which two were starts for the Georgia State Panthers.
He had back-to-back 100-yard games against Army and Georgia Southern. In the Army game, Williams rushed for 106 yards, including a 33-yard touchdown run.
Williams began his collegiate career playing three seasons at South Carolina (2017-19) as a defensive back with 86 tackles (64 solo, 22 assists), five tackles for loss, three interceptions, and six pass breakups in 23 games, of which 13 were starts for the Gamecocks.
Then, he transferred to Georgia State (2020-22) playing three seasons as a running back with 260 carries for 1,559 yards, 11 touchdowns, 13 catches for 123 yards, three kick returns for 51 yards, and four punt returns for 15 yards in 29 games, of which three were starts for the Panthers. He was an All-Sun Belt Conference Honorable Mention in 2021.
Jordan Genmark Heath is six foot one and weighs 225 pounds. The 25-year-old from Stockholm, Sweden, made five tackles (4 solo, 1 assist) and one tackle for loss in two games for the Stars in 2023. The Stars signed him as a free agent in January.
Before Philadelphia, Heath played two games for the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The Roughriders drafted Heath in the first round (5th pick) in the 2022 CFL Global Draft.
Collegiately, Heath played three seasons at Notre Dame (2017-19) with 42 tackles (22 solo, 20 assists) and one tackle for loss in 39 games for the Fighting Irish.
Then, Heath transferred to UCLA in 2021 with 55 tackles (23 solo, 32 assists), 4.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, one interception for 20 yards, three pass breakups, and two fumble recoveries in 12 games with the Bruins.
