Toronto Argonauts defensive lineman Fabion Foote announced his retirement on Wednesday via social media. Fabion Foote is six foot two and weighs 285 pounds.
“I’m officially retiring from football. My first experience with the game of football itself was playing Madden 2005 when I moved to Canada. I never understood the sport at all. I would snap the ball and run backwards in my own end-zone thinking I was scoring.
I wasn’t going to share this publicly, but I felt like I needed to express my gratitude to you all for the support I’ve received over the past decade. Coming to terms with this decision was a challenging process, but I knew it was time for me to fully invest into the next chapter of my life.
Family, Friends, and teammates. Thank you!”
The 29-year-old from North York, Ontario, was drafted by the Montreal Alouettes in the second round (12th pick) in the 2017 CFL Draft. He played three seasons in Montreal with 31 tackles (30 DT, 1 ST) and three sacks in 37 games for the Alouettes.
Then in 2020, Foote signed with the Toronto Argonauts but the season was canceled due to COVID-19 and was released. Foote re-signed with the Argonauts in 2021 and played five games in two seasons in Toronto. He was on injured reserve when the Argonauts won the Grey Cup championship in 2022 over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in Regina.
Collegiately, Foote played four seasons at McMaster (2013-16) with 70 tackles (41 solo, 29 assists), 14 tackles for loss, and 5.5 sacks in 31 games for the Marauders. In 2014, he helped the Marauders win the Yates Cup with nine tackles (6 solo, 3 assists) and 1.5 tackles for loss in 11 games.
