The Ocean City Nor’easters (5-0-2, 17 points) returned to Ben Cohen Field on the campus at Rider University against Real Central New Jersey (2-3-2, 8 points) for the second time this year on Wednesday night.
This was the seventh meeting between these teams with Ocean City leading the overall series 5-0-1. The Nor’easters came into this game with a 21-game unbeaten regular season streak, with 18 of them on the road.
The two teams met to start the season with Ocean City winning the game 1-0 on a goal by Sander Roed and Felix Schafer earned a clean sheet, which broke the club record for a shutout streak. At the time, the Nor’easters had gone 499 minutes without allowing a goal.
In the 18th minute, the Nor’easters got some great shots on goal but were unable to score past former Ocean City goalkeeper Lukas Burns.
Then, in the 32nd minute, Ocean City goalkeeper Stefano Camerlengo made a great save to keep the game scoreless. The game remained scoreless at halftime.
In the 62nd minute, there was a lot of back-and-forth possession with neither team able to score. After 90-plus minutes, the game ended in a draw. Ocean City had ten shots off target, seven corner kicks, and committed two fouls.
With the draw, the Nor’easters’ regular season unbeaten streak reaches 22 games, with 19 of them on the road. In addition, Stefano Camerlengo earned his third shutout of the season.
The Nor’easters wrap up the two-game road trip next Wednesday against the Philadelphia Lone Star FC at 5 pm from Bartram High School.
