Philadelphia Stars sign three players including RB Paul Terry

The Philadelphia Stars made several moves on Tuesday by signing running back Paul Terry, and offensive linemen Colby Ragland and Chris Toth. In addition, the Stars released running back Darnell Holland.

Paul Terry is five foot eight and weighs 205 pounds. The 25-year-old from Amarillo, Texas, was released by the Stars on February 19th. Terry had 31 carries for 169 yards, two touchdowns, and 18 catches for 120 yards in six games, of which four were starts for the Stars in 2022.

The Stars drafted Terry in the tenth round (75th pick) in the 2022 USFL Supplemental Draft. In 2021, Terry played for the Generals (TSL).

Collegiately, Terry played four seasons at Eastern New Mexico (2016-19) with 644 carries for 3,525 yards, 32 touchdowns, and ten catches for 159 yards in 43 games for the Greyhounds. He is a two-time All-LSC First Team (2018-19), and D2CCA All-Super Region 4, Second Team in 2019.

Colby Ragland is six foot five and weighs 315 pounds. The 25-year-old from Jackson, Mississippi, was released by the Stars on May 19th. He played three games for Philadelphia in 2023. The Stars signed him as a free agent in May 2022. Ragland played the final three games of the 2022 season playing left guard.

Before Philadelphia, played 13 games for the University of Birmingham-Alabama at both left guard and right tackle in 2021, helping the Blazers’ running backs rush for 2,737 yards on the season. In his final season, the Blazers beat BYU in the Independence Bowl 31-28. He was named to the 2021 First Team All-Conference USA.

In addition, he helped the Blazers’ running backs rush for 1,800 yards (200 yards per game) and allowed four sacks in 2020. He was named to the 2020 First Team All-Conference USA. Ragland spent three seasons with the Blazers (2018-21), playing 37 games.

Before joining the Blazers, Ragland played at Jones County Junior College in 2017 as a defensive lineman before switching to left tackle. The Bobcats finished the season 8-2 but lost to East Mississippi in the MACCC Playoffs 24-20. He was named to the All-MACJC South Second Team.

Chris Toth is six foot six and weighs 325 pounds. The 24-year-old from Lockport, Illinois, attended the Chicago Bears rookie minicamp in 2023. Collegiately, he played two seasons at the College of DuPage (2017-18) before transferring to Aurora University (2019-22).

In 2021, Toth was part of an offensive line that averaged 493.8 total yards per game, 215.2 yards rushing, and 278.6 passing per game for the Spartans.

He was named First Team Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference, First Team All-Region recognition from D3football.com, and was named D3football.com First Team All-American. He became the first team in Aurora University history to play in the Hula Bowl.

Toth graduated from Carl Sandburg High School where he played football, basketball, and volleyball.

Darnell Holland is five foot ten and weighs 200 pounds. The 26-year-old from Bowdon, Georgia, played in his first game of the 2023 season last week against the New Jersey Generals with five carries for 14 yards, and one fumble.

The Stars drafted Holland in the 27th round (210th pick) in the 2022 USFL Draft. Holland had 27 carries for 142 yards, two touchdowns, eight catches for 26 yards, and five kick returns for 132 yards in six games with one start for the Stars in 2022.

Collegiately, Holland played 49 games in four seasons (2015-18) at Kennesaw State University with 244 carries for 2,431 yards, 26 touchdowns, 35 catches for 606 yards, three touchdowns, 20 kick returns for 597 yards, and one touchdown in 49 games for the Owls.
