The Hamilton Tiger-Cats released fullback Myles Manalo and suspended defensive lineman Reece Martin on Thursday. Martin was recently promoted to the active roster.
Myles Manalo is six foot two and weighs 230 pounds. The 23-year-old from Burlington, Ontario, signed a contract extension with Hamilton in January. Manalo played nine games for the Ticats last season with no stats.
The Ticats drafted Manalo in the sixth round (54th pick) in the 2021 CFL Draft. In his rookie year, Manalo played three games for the Ticats in 2021. This will be Manalo’s third season in Hamilton.
Collegiately, Manalo played two seasons at the University of Western Ontario (2017, 2019) as a linebacker with 70 tackles (28 solo, 42 assists), 6.5 tackles for loss, one interception, three pass breakups, and one fumble recovery in 21 games for the Mustangs. In his final season, Manalo made 60 tackles, one interception, three pass breakups, and one fumble recovery in ten games.
Reece Martin is six foot five and weighs 285 pounds. The 22-year-old from Moncton, New Brunswick, was on the Ticats practice squad. Martin was drafted by the Ticats in the fourth round (31st pick) of the 2023 CFL Draft. Martin made 25 tackles (19 solo, 12 assists), 5.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, and two pass breakups in eight games for the Mounties.
Martin played four seasons at Mount Allison (2018-19, 2021-22) with 67.5 tackles (50 solo, 35 assists), 20.5 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and six pass breakups in 29 games. He is a three-time Hardy Trophy winner (2018, 2021-22).
