Birmingham clinches South Division title in Memphis

The Birmingham Stallions (8-2) clinched the USFL South Divisional title on Saturday afternoon at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium with a 27-20 win over the Memphis Showboats (5-5). The Memphis Showboats are eliminated from playoff contention.

Birmingham quarterback Alex McGough finished the afternoon completing 22 of 33 passes (66.7%) for 282 yards, two touchdowns, one interception, and seven carries for 32 yards. Running back CJ Marable led the rushers with ten carries for 56 yards, one touchdown, and one catch for four yards. Wide receiver Davion Davis had nine catches for 114 yards, while tight end Jace Sternberger had four catches for 84 yards and one touchdown.

Kicker Brandon Aubrey made two field goals with a long of 46 yards, and converted three extra points. Birmingham’s defense allowed 248 yards, with 71 tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks, one interception, and six pass breakups.

Memphis quarterback Cole Kelley completed 20 of 30 passes (66.7%) for 154 yards, one touchdown, one interception, and six carries for nine yards. Running back Ezra Gray led the rushers with 16 carries for 82 yards, while wide receiver Derrick Dillon led the receivers with five catches for 38 yards, six kick returns for 236 yards, and one touchdown.

Memphis kicker Alex Kessman made two of three field goals with a long of 45 yards, and converted two extra points. Memphis’s defense allowed 404 yards, with 52 tackles, one tackle for loss, one interception, five pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and fumble recoveries.
