The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed Grey Cup champion kicker Marc Liegghio and suspended kicker Seth Small on Saturday.
Marc Liegghio is five foot seven and weighs 198 pounds. The 26-year-old from Woodbridge, Ontario, spent two seasons with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (2021-22) making 37 of 47 field goals (78.7%) with a long of 55 yards, converted 61 of 69 extra points, 183 punts for 8,288, and 115 kickoffs for 7,280 yards in 32 games.
He is a member of Winnipeg’s Grey Cup championship team in 2021. The Blue Bombers drafted Liegghio in the fifth round (39th pick) in the 2021 CFL Draft. He was released by the Blue Bombers on June 4th.
Collegiately, Liegghio played four seasons at the University of Western (2016-19) converting 115 of 137 field goals (84%) with a long of 46 yards, converting 213 extra points, and kicking the ball off 266 times 14,589 yards (54.8 AVG) with three touchbacks, and 13 kicks out of bounds in 44 games for the Mustangs. He is a member of the 2017 Western’s Vanier Cup championship team.
Seth Small is five foot eleven and weighs 205 pounds. The 23-year-old from Katy, Texas, made one field goal for the Ticats in 2023 with a long of 31 yards and made one extra point last week against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
In 2022, Small attended the Tiger-Cats training camp and played in the preseason, making three field goals. In the regular season, Small made 39 of 43 field goals (90.7%) with a long of 58 yards, converted 26 of 27 extra points, and three kickoffs for 205 yards in 14 games on his way to being named a CFL East All-Star. Before Hamilton, Small attended the Indianapolis Colts mini-camp this year.
Collegiately, Small played four seasons at Texas A&M (2018-21) making 71 of 91 field goals (78%) with a long of 52 yards (2018) and made 164 extra points in 46 games for the Aggies. In addition, Small made a game-winning 21-yard field goal against Alabama in 2021 and currently holds the record in field goals (71), points scored (377), and ranks second all-time in PATs made (164).
