The Pittsburgh Maulers (4-6) took on the New Jersey Generals (3-7) on Saturday at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio, where the winner would advance to the USFL Playoffs next weekend against either the Philadelphia Stars or the Michigan Panthers.
Pittsburgh quarterback Troy Williams completed 17 of 25 passes (68%) for 154 yards, one touchdown, and six carries for 40 yards in a Maulers 26-6 win over the Generals. With the win, the Maulers are headed to the USFL playoffs for the first time in franchise history.
Pittsburgh running back Garrett Groshek led the rushers with 12 carries for 53 yards, and running back Madre London had 9 carries for 16 yards and one touchdown. Wide receiver Isiah Hennie led the receivers with six catches for 48 yards, one touchdown, and one kick return for 12 yards.
Kicker Chris Blewitt converted two field goals with a long of 52 yards and made two of three extra points. Pittsburgh’s defense allowed 246 yards, with 48 tackles, five tackles for loss, two interceptions, eight pass breakups, one touchdown, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.
New Jersey quarterback De’Andre Johnson completed 12 of 27 passes (44.4%) for 127 yards, two interceptions, and led the rushers with 12 carries for 68 yards. Running back Darius Victor had 9 carries for 48 yards while running back Kingston Davis led the receivers with three catches for 42 yards and wide receiver Warren Newman had one catch for 31 yards.
Kicker Nick Sciba converted two field goals with a long of 35 yards. New Jersey’s defense allowed 257 yards, with 75 tackles, seven tackles for loss, three sacks, two pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.
