The Calgary Stampeders received some bad news on Sunday as wide receiver Malik Henry is out for the rest of the 2023 season with a ruptured Achilles. Malik Henry took to his Twitter account to announce the injury.

“To everyone that’s DM’d me or reached out concerning last night, just wanted to give y’all an update. I ruptured my Achilles last night at the game,” said Henry. “It’s gonna be a long process but I know God wouldn’t put me through anything I couldn’t handle. Thank you for all the prayers.”

Henry ruptured his Achilles during Saturday night’s overtime loss to the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He suffered a non-contact injury in the fourth quarter and had to be carted off the field. Henry played three games this year with 14 catches for 128 yards and one touchdown.

Malik Henry is six foot and weighs 179 pounds. The 26-year-old from Tifton, Georgia, signed a three-year contract extension last October after having a breakout season with 62 catches for 1,023 yards, eight touchdowns, and two carries for eight yards in 13 games for the Stampeders. He was named a CFL West All-Star in 2022.

Henry is in his third season with Calgary making 86 catches for 1,411 yards, eleven touchdowns, five carries for 17 yards, 21 kick returns for 513 yards, and 43 punt returns for 498 yards in 25 games.

Before the CFL, the San Francisco 49ers signed Henry as an undrafted free agent. He cut in training camp but was brought back to the practice squad. However, he was released again and signed with the Indianapolis Colts. After the Colts released him, Henry signed with the New Orleans Saints before being released in October 2020.

Collegiately, Henry played three seasons at Georgia Southern (2015-17) with 24 catches for 355 yards, one touchdown, two carries for eight yards, and 18 kick returns for 382 yards in 29 games.

Henry is the latest injury for Calgary after the Stampeders placed running back Ka’Deem Carey and wide receiver Reggie Begelton on the six-game injured list.

They have a bye in Week 4 before facing the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Friday, July 7th, at 8:30 pm on CFL+. Subscribe to Fubo to watch all of the 2023 CFL Season. Purchase CFL tickets today on StubHub and Viagogo.
