Birmingham Stallions route New Orleans to win South Division Championship

The Birmingham Stallions are headed to the USFL Championship Game for the second consecutive season with a 47-22 win over the New Orleans Breakers from Protective Stadium in Birmingham, Alabama.

Birmingham quarterback Alex McGough completed 21 of 31 passes (67.7%) for 310 yards, four touchdowns, eight carries for 84 yards, and one touchdown. Birmingham running back Ricky Person Jr. had 10 carries for 84 yards, and one catch for 24 yards. Wide receiver Davion Davis led the receivers with five catches for 75 yards, and two touchdowns, while tight end Jace Sternberger had three catches for 62 yards and one touchdown.

Kicker Brandon Aubrey converted two field goals with a long of 41 yards and made five of six extra points. Birmingham’s defense allowed 352 yards, with 49 tackles, two tackles for loss, two interceptions, and nine pass breakups.

New Orleans quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson completed 26 of 50 passes (52%) for 273 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. Running back Wes Hills led the rushers with seven carries for 30 yards and one catch for six yards.

Tight end Sage Surratt had seven catches for 50 yards and one touchdown, while Jonathan Adams had four catches for 47 yards and one touchdown. New Orleans kicker Matt Coghlin made one extra point, and New Orleans’s defense allowed 553 yards, with 64 tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, three pass breakups, and two forced fumbles.
