Ocean City storms back to force a draw at West Chester United SC

The Ocean City Nor’easters (6-0-4, 22 points) visited Kildare’s Field on Tuesday night against West Chester United SC (5-1-4, 18 points) for the third time this year including the first round of the 2023 US Open Cup.

The Nor’easters came into this game on a 24-game regular season unbeaten streak with 20 of them on the road. Ocean City’s last regular season loss came against West Chester United SC on July 9, 2021. The last road loss for the Nor’easters came on June 15, 2019, against Reading United AC.

It did not come easy but the Nor’easters found a way to extend that streak another game. The game was delayed for 30 minutes due to lightning in the area before it could get underway. Once the game started, West Chester United SC controlled the first half. West Chester United SC took a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute on a goal by Harrison Coron from the right side of the box.

In the 22nd minute, Wester Chester United SC extended their lead to 2-0 by Jack Jasinski from the right side of the box. The Nor’easters had some great chances but could not find the net. Ocean trailed West Chester United SC 2-0 at halftime.

In the second half, Ocean City started to make a comeback in the 75th minute when Colin Veltri passed the ball to the top of the box toward Joao de Oliveira, who scored to make it 2-1. It was Oliveira’s first goal of the season.

Then, in the 82nd minute, Alessandro Arlotti passed the ball to Sander Roed from outside the box and Roed scored his sixth goal of the season which tied the game 2-2. Ocean City kept the momentum going but were unable to score the winning goal. The game ended in a 2-2 draw.

As a result, the Nor’easters regular season unbeaten streak now sits at 25 games, of which 21 came from the road. In addition, the Nor’easters are now 5-0 in the regular season against West Chester United SC dating back to 2022 with one more match to go for the 2023 season.

The Nor’easters return to Carey Stadium this Friday against Read Central New Jersey for the final time of the regular season. Kickoff is set for 7 pm. Tickets for all Ocean City home games can be purchased at OceanCityFC.com.
