Former Royals defenseman Colin Felix signs with Utica Comets

Former Reading Royals defenseman Colin Felix signed a one-year contract with the Utica Comets (AHL) on Monday.

Colin Felix is six foot one and weighs 203 pounds. The 24-year-old from Camden, New Jersey, had 27 points (8 goals, 19 assists), and 139 penalty minutes in 72 games for the Royals last season. In addition, he had two assists and 27 penalty minutes in 11 playoff games. In 2022, Felix signed with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms and played one game with seven penalty minutes.

Collegiately, Felix played four seasons at the University of Massachusetts (2018-21) with 42 points (4 goals, 38 assists), and 135 penalty minutes in 140 games for the Minutemen. In addition, he had one assist in four playoff games.

In the 2021 NCAA Frozen Four Championship game, UMass beat St. Cloud State 5-0 to win its first National Championship in program history at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, PA. The Minutemen were runner-ups in the 2019 championship against Minnesota-Duluth.

Before UMass, Felix played one season for the Janesville Jets (NAHL) in 2016-17 with 12 points (2 goals, ten assists), and 95 penalty minutes in 45 games, and the Madison Capitols (USHL) in 2017-18 with 27 points (8 goals, 19 assists), and 166 penalty minutes in 56 games.

Colin Felix’s dad Chris was the head athletic trainer for the then-Philadelphia Phantoms from 1996 to 2004. As a kid, Felix attended many Phantoms’ games and practices. In 2019, Colin participated in the Flyers Development Camp.
