The Repco Supercars Championship concluded the weekend at Reid Park Street Circuit in Townsville, Queensland, in the NTI Townsville 500.
In the Dunlop Super2 Series, Kai Allen started the race on the pole with Zak Best starting second to make up the front row. Allen led the opening 21 laps until Best passed him at Turn 2 on lap 22. However, a late safety car ended the race with Best winning his second race of the season and the fifth of his Super2 career.
The rest of the top ten finishers were Zane Morse third, Brad Vaughan fourth, Ryan Wood fifth, Jay Hanson sixth, Zach Bates seventh, Matt Chahda eighth, Cameron Crick ninth, and Jordyn Sinni tenth. Click here to watch the highlights. The Super2 Series returns in September from Melbourne.
In Race 17 of the Repco Supercars Championship, Cam Waters started the race on the pole with Jack Le Brocq making up the front row. Cam Waters held off Le Brocq to keep the lead on the opening lap. He led the opening 22 laps before making his first pit stop of the day.
By lap 33, all the drivers made their pit stops with Anton De Pasquale, who short-fueled early was the lead. De Pasquale lost the lead during pit stops under the safety car with Will Brown taking the lead on lap 39. However, he lost the lead to De Pasquale on the same lap.
De Pasquale went on to win his first race of the season by 5.0692 seconds over Brodie Kostecki. The win snapped Ford’s 15-race winless streak. In addition, he is the first Ford driver to win at Townsville since Scott McLaughlin in 2020, and the team’s first win since Will Davison Pukekohe last September.
The rest of the top ten finishers were Andre Heimgartner third, Broc Feeney fourth, Shane van Gisbergen fifth, Will Brown sixth, Mark Winterbottom seventh, Thomas Randle eighth, Bryce Fullwood ninth, and Jack Le Brocq tenth.
