The Reading Royals signed forwards Yvan Mongo and Devon Paliani on Wednesday for the upcoming 2023-24 season.
Yvan Mongo is five foot nine and weighs 187 pounds. The 26-year-old from Gatineau, Quebec, earned 13 points (5 goals, 8 assists), and four penalty minutes in 40 games the Royals last season. In addition, he collected two points (1 goal, 1 assist), and four penalty minutes in nine playoff games.
Collegiately, Mongo played four seasons for the University of Ottawa (2018-22) with 52 points (20 goals, 32 assists), and 12 penalty minutes in 72 games. In addition, he collected four points (3 goals, 1 assist), and six penalty minutes in 11 playoff games.
Mongo was the team captain in his last two seasons in Ottawa. In his senior year, Mongo collected 14 points (4 goals, 10 assists), and two penalty minutes in 18 games. He was named to the U Sports (OUA Far East) All-Star Team.
Devon Paliani is five foot ten and weighs 170 pounds. The 26-year-old from LaSalle, Ontario, collected 30 points (15 goals, 15 assists), and 61 penalty minutes in 64 games for the Royals last year. In addition, he earned five points (2 goals, 3 assists), and 25 penalty minutes in 11 playoff games.
In the 2021-22 season, Paliani earned five points (3 goals, 2 assists), and 25 penalty minutes in 37 games combined with the Maine Mariners, Worcester Railers, and Toledo Walleye.
Paliani played two seasons in the OHL for the Sudbury Wolves, Saginaw Spirit, and Sarnia Sting with 43 points (14 goals, 29 assists), and 95 penalty minutes in 129 games. In addition, he had an assist in eleven playoff games.
After the OHL, Paliani played five years at Ryerson University (U Sports) with 72 points (34 goals, 38 assists), and 44 penalty minutes in 98 games. In addition, he earned nine points (4 goals, 5 assists), and six penalty minutes in 20 playoff games.
Paliani joined the Maine Mariners for six games getting two assists, before being traded to Worcester scoring two goals in eight games. After the Railers released him, he signed with the Toledo Walleye collecting three points (1 goal, 2 assists), and 12 penalty minutes in 13 games for Toledo.
