The Birmingham Stallions released USFL MVP quarterback Alex McGough on Tuesday to sign a contract with the Green Bay Packers as first reported by Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2. McGough worked out for the Packers on Tuesday and signed him later in the day.

Alex McGough is six foot three and weighs 214 pounds. The 27-year-old from Tampa, Florida, 180 of 267 passes (67.4%) for 2,104 yards, 20 touchdowns, five interceptions, 70 carries for 403 yards, and five touchdowns in ten games for the Stallions in 2023. He was named to the All-USFL Team after the season.

The Stallions drafted McGough in the first round (6th pick) in the 2022 USFL Draft. In his first season, McGough completed 39 of 75 passes (52%) for 460 yards, three touchdowns, three interceptions, three carries for 33 yards, and three touchdowns in seven games, of which three were starts.

Before Birmingham, McGough was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the seventh round (220th pick) in the 2017 NFL Draft. He later spent time with the Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Collegiately, McGough played four seasons at Florida International University (2014-17) completing 805 of 1,334 passes (60%) for 9,084 yards, 65 touchdowns, 37 interceptions, 307 carries for 518 yards, and 16 touchdowns in 45 games for the Panthers.

In addition to McGough’s release, the Stallions re-signed fullback Bobby Holly and wide receiver Marlon Williams.

Bobby Holly is five foot eleven and weighs 240 pounds. The 26-year-old from Ruston, Louisiana, played two games before suffering an injury and missed the rest of the 2023 season.

The Stallions drafted Holly in the tenth round (360th pick) in the 2022 USFL Supplemental Draft. In his first season with Birmingham, Holly had one carry for 52 yards, one touchdown, and one catch for seven yards in nine games, of which three were starts. Before Birmingham, Holly signed with the Los Angeles Chargers as an undrafted free agent in 2020.

Collegiately, Holly played four seasons at Louisiana Tech (2016-19) with nine carries for 13 yards, one touchdown, 11 catches for 53 yards, three touchdowns, and four kick returns for 29 yards in 52 games for the Bulldogs.

Marlon Williams is five foot eleven and weighs 204 pounds. The 23-year-old from Mobile, Alabama, played one game for the Stallions in 2023 making three catches for 23 yards before an injury sidelined him for the rest of the season. The Stallions drafted Williams in the seventh round (332nd pick) in the 2022 USFL Supplemental Draft. In his first season, Williams led the team with 32 catches for 474 yards, and four touchdowns in nine games for the Stallions in 2022.

Collegiately, Williams played four seasons at the University of Central Florida (2017-20) with 157 catches for 2,260 yards, 19 touchdowns, seven carries for 79 yards, eight kick returns for 135 yards, and seven punt returns for 28 yards in 44 games for the Knights.
