The Philadelphia Stars released defensive lineman Chris Nelson on Sunday. Chris Nelson is six foot three and weighs 310 pounds.

The 28-year-old from Dundee, Florida, made 21 tackles (9 solo, 12 assists), and a half a sack in nine games for the Stars in 2023. The Stars drafted Nelson in the 25th round (198th pick) in the 2022 USFL Draft. In his first season, Nelson made 24 tackles (15 solo, 9 assists), two tackles for loss, two sacks, and one pass breakup in nine games.

Before Philadelphia, Nelson signed with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent in 2018, and later spent time with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Then, he signed with the Edmonton Elks. He played four games with six tackles.

Collegiately, Nelson played five seasons at the University of Texas (2014-18) with 109 tackles (70 solo, 30 assists), 15.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, one pass breakup, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 45 games for the Longhorns. Nelson helped Texas win the Texas Bowl in 2017 and the Sugar Bowl in 2019.
