Two days ago, the Calgary Stampeders acquired defensive end Ja’Gared Davis for a 2024 sixth-round pick. Unfortunately, the trade has been voided after he failed to pass his required physical examination upon arrival in Calgary. The Stampeders will retain their 2024 sixth-round draft pick and Davis returns to Hamilton.
Ja’Gared Davis is six foot one and weighs 238 pounds. The 32-year-old from Crockett, Texas, made seven tackles for the Ticats in 2023. The Ticats signed him as a free agent on February 15, 2023. In 2022, he made 36 tackles and seven sacks in 14 games for the Toronto Argonauts, helping them win the 109th Grey Cup over Winnipeg. In addition, he was named a CFL East All-Star for the third time in his career.
Before Hamilton, Davis signed with the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent in 2013. Shortly after being released by the Texans, he was claimed off waivers by the New England Patriots. In 2014, He made five tackles in three games for the Patriots. After New England, Davis had stints with the Kansas City Chiefs twice and the Washington Redskins.
In 2016, Davis signed with the Calgary Stampeders. He played three seasons in Calgary with 126 tackles (123 DT, 3 ST), 23 sacks, three interceptions, one touchdown, and seven forced fumbles in 45 games. In 2018, he helped Calgary win the 106th Grey Cup championship over Ottawa.
In 2019, Davis signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He played two seasons in Hamilton with 94 tackles (93 DT, 1 ST), 19 sacks, and three forced fumbles in 30 games. He was named a two-time CFL East All-Star.
Collegiately, Davis played four seasons at Southern Methodist (2009-12) with 301 tackles (181 solo, 120 assists), 41 tackles for loss, 20.5 sacks, four interceptions for 44 yards, one touchdown, 20 pass breakups, eight forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries in 53 games for the Mustangs. He was named First Team Conference USA in 2010 and Second Team All-Conference USA in 2011.
