Brodie Kostecki celebrates winning Race 18 at Sydney Motorsports Park on Saturday night.

The Repco Supercars Championship visited Sydney Motorsport Park in Eastern Creek, New South Whales, on Saturday night for Race 18 of the Beaurepaires Sydney SuperNight.

Coca-Cola Racing driver Brodie Kostecki qualified second to start the race. Kostecki took advantage of pole sitter Andre Heimgartner’s slow start to begin the race, while Will Brown and Cam Waters passed him. Heimgartner fell to fifth on the first lap.

On lap 13, Kostecki was challenged by his teammate Will Brown for the lead but Kostecki opened up a 1.3-second lead. The lead increased to four seconds after Brown and Waters made pit stops. Kostecki made a pit stop on lap 19 and kept the lead by 1.6 seconds over Waters, who passed Brown for second place on lap 17.

At the halfway point of the race, Kostecki’s lead grew to 2.5 seconds over his teammate Will Brown. However, on lap 35, David Reynolds crashed which brought out the safety car. The race resumed on lap 39. Cam Waters was served a five-second penalty for an unsafe release on pit road.

Late in the race, Chaz Mostert moved to second place, while Will Brown and Shan van Gisbergen battled for the third position with three laps to go. Gisbergen bumped Brown several times before passing him for third place. Brodie Kostecki won the race by 7.005 seconds over Chaz Mostert. It was Kostecki’s second win the year and the third of his career.

In addition, he leads the championship points by 14 points over Will Brown. Shane van Gisbergen, who crossed the finish line in third place, was penalized for the incident and Brown took home third place, and van Gisbergen finished in seventh place.

The rest of the top ten finishers were Will Brown third, Jack Le Brocq fourth, Cam Waters fifth, Tim Slade sixth, Shane van Gisbergen seventh, Bryce Fullwood eighth, Mark Winterbottom ninth, and Scott Pye tenth. Race 19 happens tonight at 1:30 am on the Supercars YouTube Channel.
