Ottawa Redblacks release Raphael Leonard and Ryan Saddler

The Ottawa Redblacks released wide receiver Raphael Leonard and linebacker Ryan Saddler on Tuesday. This comes after the Redblacks activated wide receivers Bralon Addison, Tevaun Smith, and defensive back Justin Howell from the six-game injured list.

Raphael Leonard is six foot two and weighs 190 pounds. The 26-year-old from Starkville, Mississippi, played two preseason games for the Edmonton Elks with ten catches for 90 yards, and one touchdown. In 2022, Leonard played five games for Edmonton this year as a wide receiver and two games as a defensive back.

Collegiately, Leonard played two seasons at Southern Illinois (2017-18) with 91 catches for 1,377 yards and 12 touchdowns. In 2016, caught 23 passes for 360 yards and seven touchdowns at East Mississippi Community College and caught one pass for eight yards for Florida Atlantic in 2015.

Ryan Saddler is six foot one and weighs 225 pounds. The 23-year-old from Boca Raton, Florida, played two preseason games for the Redblacks. Before Ottawa, he made 96 tackles (64 solo, 32 assists), 11 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, three interceptions, and two pass breakups for the Bulldogs in 2022. He was named All-Big South Second Team.

Saddler played five seasons at Bryant University (2018-22) with 204 tackles (118 solo, 86 assists), 19 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, three interceptions, and three pass breakups in 32 games.

Saddler was named All-New England and All-NEC First Team in 2021 after making 91 tackles (47 solo, 44 assists), six tackles for loss, one sack, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and one pass breakup in 11 games.
