The Birmingham Stallions re-signed quarterback J’Mar Smith on Friday. J’Mar Smith is six foot one and weighs 218 pounds.
The 26-year-old from Meridian, Mississippi, completed 10 of 15 passes (66.7%) for 160 yards, one touchdown, one interception, and two carries for one yard against the New Jersey Generals in Week 1 before suffering an injury on his left non-throwing ring finger and missed the rest of the 2023 season.
The Stallions drafted Smith in the 12th round (96th pick) in the 2022 USFL Draft. Smith completed 131 of 239 passes (54.8%) for 1,573 yards, ten touchdowns, six interceptions, 38 carries for 187 yards, and two touchdowns in nine games, of which seven were starts for the Stallions. He is a two-time USFL Champion.
Before Birmingham, Smith signed with the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2020. After New England, he had a tryout with the Green Bay Packers before signing with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (CFL) on May 17, 2021, and was assigned to the practice squad. However, he was released a month later.
Collegiately, Smith played four seasons at Louisiana Tech (2016-19) completing 759 of 1,280 passes (59%) for 9,523 yards, 51 touchdowns, 21 interceptions, 326 carries for 856 yards, and 15 touchdowns in 44 games for the Bulldogs.
He was named First Team All-Conference USA, and C-USA Offensive Player of the Year in 2019 after completing 236 of 367 passes (64%) for 2,977 yards, 18 touchdowns, five interceptions, 100 carries for 264 yards, and four touchdowns in 11 games.
