Meyer Shank Racing announced on Friday that they have signed Tom Blomqvist to a two-year contract that starts in the 2024 season.

In addition, the team also announced that Helio Castroneves will remain with the team for 2024 and beyond racing the Indianapolis 500. He will become a minority partner with the Meyer Shank Racing ownership group. MSR ownership group now includes Shank, Jim Meyer, Liberty Media, and Castroneves.

Tom Blomqvist is a 29-year-old from Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, and made his IndyCar debut earlier this year at Toronto. However, he was taken out on the first lap of the race and finished in 25th place.

Blomqvist has open-wheel experience having competed in F3 Euroseries, German F3 Championship, and FIA European Formula 3 Championship. In 2010, he won the Formula Renault UK. Blomqvist has also competed in the Formula E-Series.

Blomqvist also competes for Meyer Shank Racing in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with two poles, two wins, and four podium finishes in seven races this year. His two wins this year came at the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona and Canadian Tire Motorsports Park.

In addition, he won the 2022 IMSA SportsCar Championship with Meyer Shank Racing when he won the final race of the season at Motul Petit Le Mans. Blomqvist is in his fourth year in IMSA with five poles, four wins, and 12 podium finishes.

Blomqvist has also been an integral part in the team’s development of the all-new Acura LMDh Prototype hybrid in 2023

“Firstly, I would like to say a huge thank you to Mike and Jim and all the partners – AutoNation, SiriusXM, Arctic Wolf, Clopay, and Cleveland-Cliffs – for believing in me and giving me this opportunity,” said Blomqvist.

“It’s been a good ride the last two years in IMSA, but I’ve been itching to make the step up to IndyCar and this is an opportunity I’m eager and motivated to make the most of. IndyCar is an incredibly competitive series and I’m under no illusions in how difficult this championship can be, but I am extremely motivated to make the most of this exciting new challenge.”

Four-time Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves will stay on board with Meyer Shank Racing. Castroneves won his fourth Indy 500 with Meyer Shank Racing in 2021.

In addition to becoming a minority owner, he will only compete in the Indianapolis 500 while serving as driver mentor, team ambassador, and partner of MSR’s growing list of sponsors which include AutoNation, SiriusXM, Arctic Wolf, Clopay, and Cleveland-Cliffs.

“First I want to thank Mike, Jim, and Liberty for accepting me as part of the ownership group,” said Castroneves. “Throughout my career, I’ve been very fortunate to surround myself with an amazing group of people and this journey will be my next chapter and I can’t wait for that. Don’t get me wrong, I still have a lot of fuel to burn inside in terms of driving and I will do that at the Indy 500 as I continue my pursuit of the Drive for Five.”

Meyer Shank Racing is still finalizing plans for its second full-season entry in 2024 and will announce soon.
