Former Memphis Showboats running back Alex Collins passed away on Monday morning at the age of 28 from a motorcycle accident in Broward County, Florida. Collins’s family released a statement on his passing.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Alex Collins this morning,” Collins’ family said in a statement released through the Seahawks. “Alex was cherished by his family and friends as well as supporters from all around the world. All who truly know him can attest to his drive, determination, and larger-than-life personality. We kindly request your thoughts and prayers for our family during this difficult time. We ask for privacy as we navigate through our grief. We will provide updates regarding funeral arrangements as they become available.”

Alex Collins played three games for the Memphis Showboats in 2023 with 33 carries for 98 yards, one touchdown, and seven catches for 35 yards.

Before Memphis, Collins was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the fifth round (171st pick) of the 2016 NFL Draft. He played five seasons in the NFL for the Baltimore Ravens and Seattle Seahawks with 483 carries for 1,997 yards (39.9 YPG), 18 touchdowns, 59 catches for 467 yards, one touchdown, and two kick returns for 50 yards in 50 games, of which 29 were starts.

Collegiately, Collins played three seasons at the University of Arkansas (2013-15) with 665 carries for 3,703 yards (97.4 YPG), 36 touchdowns, 27 catches for 167 yards, and six kick returns for 187 yards in 38 games, of which 14 were starts for the Razorbacks. He was named the Phil Steele’s All-SEC Second Team and a Doak Walker Award Semifinalist in 2015.
