The Memphis Showboats re-signed linebacker Anthony Butler and punter Brandon Wright on Tuesday.

Anthony Butler is six foot one and weighs 230 pounds. The 25-year-old from Charlotte, North Carolina, made 48 tackles (25 solo, 23 assists), one tackle for loss, one interception, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and three pass breakups in ten games for the Showboats in 2023.

The Showboats (then the Tampa Bay Bandits) signed Butler on May 12, 2022, and played five games with three tackles (2 solo, 1 assist), two interceptions, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. Before Memphis, Butler signed with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent on May 6, 2021, but was released five days later.

Collegiately, Butler played four seasons at Charlotte (2016-19) with 146 tackles (62 solo, 84 assists) and 9.5 tackles for loss in 36 games for the 49ers.

Then, Butler transferred to Liberty in 2020 with 67 tackles (32 solo, 35 assists), four tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions, and four pass breakups in ten games for the Flames.  

Brandon Wright is five foot ten and weighs 175 pounds. The 26-year-old from Atlanta, Georgia, punted the ball 27 times for 1,228 yards (45.5 AVG), with a long 76 yards, 12 from inside the 20-yard line, eight touchbacks, and 22 kickoffs for 1,496 yards (68 AVG) in ten games for the Showboats in 2023.

The Showboats (then the Tampa Bay Bandits) drafted Wright in the 32nd round (257th pick) of the 2022 USFL Draft. He punted the ball 45 times for 2,176 yards (48.4 AVG), with a long of 76 yards, four from inside the 20-yard line, and 16 touchbacks in ten games for the Bandits in 2022.

Before Memphis, Wright signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent in 2020 and was placed on the practice squad. After Jacksonville, he signed with the Los Angeles Rams in 2021 and was placed on the practice squad.

Collegiately, Wright played four seasons at Georgia State (2016-19) with 183 punts for 7,928 yards (43.3 AVG), a long of 71 yards, 56 from inside the 20-yard line, 14 touchbacks, 22 fair catches, converted 32 of 54 field goals (59.3%) with a long of 52 yards in 25 games for the Panthers. He was named First Team All-Sun Belt in 2018.
