Delaware opens the season with a win at Stony Brook

The Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens (1-0) opened the 2023 season on Thursday night against the Stony Brook Seawolves (0-1) in the CAA opener from Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium.

Delaware had 559 yards on offense. Quarterback Ryan O’Connor completed 24 of 38 passes (63.2%) for 346 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions to lead the Blue Hens to a 37-14 win.

Running back Marcus Yarns led the rushers with 11 catches for 107 yards, two touchdowns, and one catch for six yards. Running back Kyron Cumby had five carries for 39 yards and one touchdown.

Wide receiver Chandler Harvin had five catches for 100 yards, and Kym Wimberly had five catches for 81 yards and one touchdown. Delaware’s defense had 67 tackles, one sack, three interceptions, and one touchdown.

Stony Brook had 327 yards on offense. Quarterback Casey Case completed 14 of 40 passes (35%) for 163 yards, three interceptions, and two carries for three yards.

Running back Johnny Martin III had eight carries for 63 yards, and Roland Dempster had ten carries for 50 yards and one touchdown. Wide receiver Jayce Freeman had five catches for 62 yards. Stony Brook’s defense had 66 tackles, four sacks, and three interceptions.
