Rutgers dominates to their first win of the season over Northwestern

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights (1-0) opened the 2023 college football stadium against the Northwestern Wildcats (0-1) in a Big Ten East versus West on Sunday afternoon from SHI Stadium.

Rutgers had 285 yards on offense. Quarterback Gavin Wimsatt completed 17 of 29 passes (58.6%) for 163 yards, one touchdown, nine carries for 33 yards, and one touchdown to lead the Scarlet Knights to a 24-7 win over the Wildcats.

Running back Kyle Monangai had 14 carries for 49 yards, one touchdown, and one catch for 20 yards. Wide receiver Isaiah Washington had four catches for 36 yards and wide receiver Ian Strong had one catch for 11 yards, and one touchdown. The Scarlet Knights’ defense had 60 tackles, eight tackles for loss, five sacks, one interception, and five pass breakups.

Northwestern had 201 yards on offense. Quarterback Ben Bryant completed 20 of 35 passes (57.1%) for 169 yards, and two interceptions. Backup quarterback Brendan Sullivan completed 3 for 4 passes (75%) for 13 yards, and one touchdown.

Running back Brendan Sullivan had four carries for 11 yards, and wide receiver Cam Johnson had four catches for 45 yards. Northwestern’s defense had 85 tackles, two tackles for loss, and two pass breakups.
