The Toronto Argonauts and offensive lineman Peter Nicastro agreed to a three-year contract extension through the 2026 season on Tuesday. Peter Nicastro is six foot two and weighs 305 pounds.

The 24-year-old from Calgary, Alberta, has started ten games for the Argonauts playing guard and center. He’s played a key part in Toronto’s success as the offensive line has allowed ten sacks this year, which is half the amount of any other team in the CFL.

Nicastro’s new contract will make him $205,000 in hard money in 2024 as part of the extension plus a $40,00 roster bonus due on January 15. In 2025, he will make $220,000, and $240,000 in 2026. In addition, he can earn $5,000 if he is named a CFL All-Star and selected as the league’s Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman.

“I am so excited to sign this contract to remain in Toronto,” said Nicastro. “This is where I want to be, I love the city, the fans and the organization gives us every opportunity to succeed on and off the field. I can’t wait to continue building on the success of the last few years. I want to thank the Argonauts organization, my family, and my agent for all their hard work and support in getting this deal done.”

He’s opened up holes for running back A.J. Ouellette helping him rush for 710 yards, which is second-best in the league. In addition, the Argonauts’ offense leads the league in points per game (34.8), average yards per play (7.6), average gain on first down (7.5), average yards per pass (10.9), completion percentage (68) and is second in offensive touchdowns (35) and net offense (377.5).

The Toronto Argonauts drafted Nicastro in the first round (7th pick) of the 2021 CFL Draft. In his rookie season, he started 11 games playing guard and center before suffering a season-ending ACL injury causing him to miss the 2022 season.

“Getting Pete locked up is huge for us,” said Argos Head Coach Ryan Dinwiddie. “He’s been a starter from the moment he stepped into the league, can play multiple positions along the line, and gets better each week. This was really important for us after getting Chad extended last week. We are thrilled to keep him in Double Blue.”

Collegiately, Nicastro played three seasons at the University of Calgary (2017-19) playing guard and center in 26 games for the Dinos. He is a member of the 2019 Vanier Cup Championship team.
